Bonham is the county seat, and most of the county is a short drive from the courthouse square. By road, Ector and Dodd City are about 6 miles out, Savoy 12, Trenton 15, Leonard 16, Whitewright 17 and Honey Grove 18. Ladonia and Telephone, out toward the corners, take closer to 40 minutes.

Leonard
Where US 69 crosses SH 78, 16 miles south. It runs on city wells, though the plant that treats Bois d'Arc Lake water sits just west of town. Plumbing in Leonard
Honey Grove
On US 82, 18 miles east, with an 1889 stone city hall and Bois d'Arc Lake to the north. The city has state money to replace its old clay sewer lines. Plumbing in Honey Grove
Trenton
Where SH 121 meets US 69, 15 miles southwest. An old railroad and onion-shipping town where about 3 in 10 homes predate 1940. Plumbing in Trenton
Savoy
On SH 56, 12 miles west, next to the Grayson County line. Its median home dates to about 1968, the oldest of these towns. Plumbing in Savoy
Whitewright
Just over the line in Grayson County, 17 miles by road. Septic permits there come from Grayson County, which has its own rules. Plumbing in Whitewright
Water and sewer, town by town
Only Bonham drinks lake water. The other five towns pump from the Woodbine sand, most of them from 1,200 to 1,700 feet down, and so do the rural utilities around them.

Outside city limits, septic permits come from Fannin County's environmental office in Bonham, or from Grayson County in Sherman on the Whitewright side. Nearly all new septic systems in Fannin County are spray systems.

We also work the smaller towns and the country between them: Dodd City and Windom east of Bonham on SH 56, Ector to the west, Bailey south on SH 78, Randolph where SH 121 meets SH 11, Ravenna to the north-northwest, Telephone up FM 273, and Ladonia in the southeast corner on SH 34 and SH 50.
That takes in the country around both lakes. Lake Bonham, the city's water supply lake since 1969, sits about three miles northeast of town off FM 273. Bois d'Arc Lake lies farther northeast, between Bonham and Honey Grove, and most of the land around it gets water from Bois d'Arc MUD.

Do you charge a trip fee for the far side of the county?
No. There's no trip fee anywhere in Fannin County.
Do you work in Sherman, Denison or Paris?
Yes, when the schedule allows. Sherman and Denison are about 28 to 29 miles from Bonham by road and Paris about 39, so call first to check.
Can you work on a house with a septic system or a well?
Yes, on the plumbing side. We clear and repair the drain line from the house to the septic tank and handle the plumbing inside. Pumping a tank and repairing a well pump take separate Texas licenses, and we'll tell you straight when you need one of those trades.
Where do I get a septic permit?
In Fannin County, from the county's environmental office at 1203 E. Sam Rayburn Drive in Bonham. Around Whitewright and the rest of Grayson County, Grayson County Development Services in Sherman handles it.
